As he was being taken to his own funeral, A 17-year-old boy from Karnataka woke up on the way, shocking everyone. The boy, Kumar Marewad was rushed to a private hospital after his condition deteriorated. He was admitted to a hospital in Dharwad after his illness showed no improvement. The doctors reportedly told Kumar's family that the infection in his body had spread and that Kumar was not likely to survive if the life support was removed.
When asked about the worsened condition of Kumar, the respective doctor Mahesh Neelakhantannavar said: "Kumar is on the ventilator".
"We had chose to take Kumar home after doctors told us his chances of survival were bleak once taken off the ventilator", Kumar's brother-in-law Sharanappa Naikar was quoted as saying by TOI.
However, on reaching home, Kumar's family and relatives reportedly noticed no body movement and presumed that Kumar had breathed his last. They then chose to make arrangements for his funeral and headed straight to perform his last rites.

Following the doctor's statements, his parents then made a decision to take him home. The group had hardly proceeded two kilometers from their house when, to their shock, he opened his eyes and started moving his arms and legs. He was rushed to nearby hospital on Gokul Road as soon as possible where doctors examined him again and said he is suffering from severe infections. "We need support for his treatment", Kumar's parents Ningappa and Manjula, daily wage labourers, were quoted as saying by the daily. He used to work as a construction labourer.
