The incident took place in India's Dharwad village in Karnataka state, and since being reported, people are visiting the boy who woke up from the dead.
As the family was taking the teen to his funeral to perform last rites, the Times of India reports he opened his eyes and moved his hands and legs!
The 17-year-old had been bitten by a stray dog a month previously and became critically ill with a fever in hospital.
Once again the young boy was rushed to a nearby hospital and was put back on the ventilator. He was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is critical.
Marewad's parents made the decision to turn off life support and allow their son to die at home. Noticing no body movement or breathing, Kumar's relatives presumed him dead.
They chose to take him straight to his funeral - but had hardly carried him two kilometres when Kumar opened his eyes and started moving again.
The doctors told Kumar's relatives that he was critical and that he would not survive if life support was removed.
"We had chose to take Kumar home after doctors told us his chances of survival were bleak once taken off the ventilator", Kumar's brother-in-law Sharanappa Naikar told the news outlet.
Kumar is on ventilator.
