The 50-inch-tall bronze girl stands defiant, with hands on her hips, staring down the "Charging Bull".
Two Trump supporters appeared to have snuck Trump gear onto Wall Street's "Fearless Girl" statue, Gothamist reports. It's also been a target of repeated vandalism.
The "Fearless Girl" statue was commissioned by multi-trillion asset manager State Street Global Advisors to celebrate female empowerment, though notably only five of SSGA's 28 top executives are women. The source said this occurred right after midnight on Monday morning.
It appears, via social media, that the "Fearless Girl" has since returned to her previous nonpartisan state, though you can click through the above gallery for photos of her brief time as a Trumpette. She's meant to symbolize the few, often forgotten women on Wall Street.
Meanwhile, a similar petition on Thepetitionsite.com is less than 1,000 signatures away from its goal of 17,000. The Care2 petition says, "Women's equality is not a temporary issue", and therefore should not be limited to a day, week or month.
After the statue was unveiled, Anne McNally, whose firm is an investment management subsidiary of State Street Corp, said that if the city made a decision to allow the "Fearless Girl" to remain permanently, "we're absolutely on board with that".
