Trump golf trips: President's 11 outings on pace to out-golf Obama

Not helping matters is the White House's reluctance to speak about Trump's golf, sometimes even denying the president played at all.

Trump has visited the two courses near his Mar-a-Lago estate - Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach and Trump National Golf Course in Jupiter - 10 times in the first two months of his presidency.

Obama did not golf with world leaders or members of Congress on a regular or even semiregular basis, preferring to surround himself with close friends, pro athletes and celebrities or White House aides. Could be because during the presidential campaign, Trump was critical of links-loving Obama's outings.

But White House spokesman Sean Spicer also said Trump's right to "privacy" is one reason that the Trump administration hasn't trumpeted the outcomes of his meetings on golf courses.

A president's golf play is far from controversial: In fact, it's the most common pastime of the country's leaders.

And before he ran for president, Trump would tweet about Obama's golfing.

If Trump and his team now believe he was wrong, I'd love to hear them say so.

So imagine the mindset of Trump opponents after the White House press corps and Washington Post reported Sunday that Trump made his 11th trip to the golf course in eight weeks as president.

He said Trump uses the games to "help US interests" by meeting global leaders.

Each of Trump's weekend Mar-a-Lago trips could cost taxpayers more than $3 million, according to an analysis by Politico.

The reporter followed up by asking why the details of "productive meetings" on the golf course are not being shared with the media.

Trump's golf trips would not have been an issue if he had not spearheaded a campaign constantly complaining about another president for playing golf, and then done the exact same thing, but more often, while keeping the press and ordinary Americans (many of whom voted for him) out of the loop.

"Presidents always travel. Wherever he goes, he carries the apparatus of the White House with us..." "How you use the game of golf is something that he's talked about", Spicer told the press. "People jump to the conclusion he's going to play golf". "He's actually conducted meetings there", Spicer said.
