Before heading off into the musical ring, the pop-country hopefuls received vocal tips from coach Blake Shelton and his trusty key adviser, Luke Bryan.

As NBC's "The Voice" gears up to start the "battle rounds", it's not just the signing that's been a stand out this season.

Have you been watching this season of The Voice?

But as much as Voice fans see on TV, there's a lot more going on off the camera.

Johnny Hayes: Strategy-wise, I don't really have a strategy per se.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani fell in love when they were co-judging "The Voice" in 2015.

Alicia loved them both and can't believe that Brennley was able to express the emotion of the song even though she has not had the life experience.

"Chris, you let yourself completely get absorbed into the music, nearly as an out-of-body experience", she said. "This one hurts me".

The first Battle of the night is between Gwen Stefani's artists, Johnny Gates and Sammi Zonana. Sky and the rest of Team Gwen will be joined by celebrity adviser/Grammy-winning singer, Celine Dion, who will share her wisdom with Stefani and her team.

Later, another standout performance came when two Nashville residents and traditional-leaning artists, Ashley Levin and Casi Joy, performed Reba McEntire's 1984 Number One "How Blue". They performed "Pillowtalk" by Zayn Malik.

"I wanna see it again!" she exclaimed. And be sure to sound off in our comments section too.

"Would that make you feel weird, Gwen?".

"I hope your not available to steal because I'd probably lose my girlfriend", Shelton said. Shelton ultimately picked Joy as the victor, but the other judges were not about to let Levin go home - eliciting a rare three-buzzer steal, she was wooed to join Team Alicia Keys.
