Google Play Store will offer free Android app every week

The company has also rolled out its StoreKit API with the release of iOS 10.3, allowing developers to streamline the process for requesting app reviews.

Developers will take any advantage they can get in the overly crowded app stores for Apple's platforms, and that includes reminding potential customers that their app is completely free to use. However, it previously did not actively blocked them from publishing apps with such names.

Submitting an app to the Apple with the word "free" in the title will now see it rejected, with the firm sending the following response: "Your app's name, icons, screenshots, or previews to be displayed on the App Store include references to your app's price, which is not considered a part of these metadata items".

The catch lies in the fact that Google Play Store's curated section of free apps will have the app available for free only during the week it's displayed there, and then the app goes back to its initial retail price. While the beta version of iOS 10.3 provided an option for users to opt out of receiving the prompts altogether by toggling the options within the iTunes & App Store section in Settings, the option appears to be absent from the final version of iOS 10.3, despite the feature being mentioned in Apple's iOS Human Interface Guidelines. It's not clear if Apple will make apps that are already in the App Store implement a title change. In addition to this, the screenshots of apps will not be affected as well. Whether it is in the screen shots, or in the name of the app, the company does not want developers promoting the price.

Including the word "free" in an app's title makes it more appealing to the average user and grabs their attention. Developers will get a notification if users change their review, too.

This is it for now, folks. For approximately the last month, apps that use "free" or other pricing information in their metadata have been blocked in iTunes Connect submissions.

Users who leave comments will get a notification if the developer replies.
