Golf roundup: DeLaet, Donald share RBC Heritage lead

Englishman Luke Donald chipped in for a birdie at the final hole to share the halfway lead at the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head in SC.

"All of a sudden they are tied then there is a three-shot difference while there is birdies and there are eagles, there is balls in bushes, there is penalty drops and, I mean, it had everything on the back nine that we come to love about Augusta National".

Bjerregaard, who also had a share of the first-round lead, had four birdies and two bogeys.

First-round leader Bud Cauley followed up his 63 with a 72 on Friday to find himself in a five-day tie for fifth place with fellow Americans Pat Perez, Jason Dufner and Sam Saunders as well as Canadian Nick Taylor.

In his first six RBC Heritage appearances, DeLaet's best finish was 14th previous year.

DeLaet was tied with Dufner heading into his final hole but three-putted No. 18 from 35 feet to fall back.

Kisner followed up his 64 with a second straight bogey-free round at Harbour Town. He had three birdies on the final five holes before the turn to share the lead with Simpson for a time. "I was very happy with how I played". Kisner shot a 66, and Simpson, the former U.S. Open champ, had a 68.

Donald wasn't the only one to end his Friday with a hole out, though.

Englishman Donald - who was world number one in 2011 - last won on the Japan Tour in 2013, with his most recent PGA Tour victory arriving at the Transitions Championship in March 2012.

The Frenchman made four birdies and an eagle at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam for his second straight 3-under 70, opening a one-shot lead over Lucas Bjerregaard and Trevor Fisher Jr.

"This place has been kind to me". "Certainly playing for pars won't get it done out there". It was a little bit more stressful than I would have liked but a great short game bailed me out.

At Duluth, Georgia, Bob Tway bogeyed two of the last three holes for a 7-under 65 and the first-round lead in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic.

Ames is the third Canadian to win on the 50-and-over tour and the 11th player to win on the PGA Tour Champions, PGA Tour and Web.com Tour.

Langer has shot par or better in a record 36 straight rounds on the PGA Tour Champions.

But he has finished second at this event - held at Harbour Town Golf Links - four times in the past eight years.

"I just knew from a mental standpoint I needed a couple of weeks at home to recharge", DeLaet said.
