Kalispell joins protests over Trump tax returns

Throughout the country, in Seattle, the District of Columbia, Florida and New York City, protesters called on Mr Trump to release his personal tax returns as part of a nationwide Tax March.

Comedian Sarah Silverman and Will And Grace actor Debra Messing were among the demonstrators in New York City.

Between 500 and 1,000 people were in the park as the rallies peaked, according to an estimate by a reporter. "We need a president who works for all Americans - and a tax system that does, too", said the organisers of the "Tax March" demonstrations on its website.

A huge inflatable chicken, adorned to look like Trump, toured the area, apparently to suggest that the Republican president was afraid, or chicken, to publish his tax records.

The protest in Bangor took place on the April 15 deadline to file tax returns and pay any outstanding taxes.

"We are taking the gloves off to say knock off the secrecy Mr. President", said Senator Ron Wyden of OR, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, which would play a leading role in tax reform measures being considered in Congress. Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, of California, said there's nothing to prevent Trump from releasing his income taxes.

Lyons said that while she's always followed politics, it wasn't until Trump's election that she became really active. The White House confirmed the numbers before they were aired.

In addition to major United States cities, including Washington and Los Angeles, marches are planned in Europe, Japan and New Zealand. It has been retweeted more than 21,000 times. Trump has frequently accused protests directed toward him of being insincerely organized, even though thousands of protesters anticipated this criticism and preemptively made signs for the march stating that they were not paid to be there.

Joe Dinkin, spokesman for the Working Families Party, one of the groups organizing the marches, said investigations into the Trump campaign's alleged connections to Russian Federation underscore the need to disclose his returns. "... If enough people are letting their congressmen and women know that we're unhappy, whether it's through protest or by directly contacting them, there's no way it can't help".

There have been some glimpses into Trump's tax history.
