Facebook murder suspect found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Pennsylvania

A Cleveland man who posted a video of himself fatally shooting an elderly grandfather on Easter Sunday, shot and killed himself Tuesday morning in Erie County, police confirmed.

Stephens was found in Pennsylvania on April 18, two days after the murder.

According to Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams, Erie police received a tip that a vehicle matching that of Stephens was spotted in a McDonald's parking lot in the town.

But Stephens remained at large as the search for him expanded nationwide, police said. "We don't know why", Williams, the police chief, said.

The Cleveland Police also said that Stephens has connections to clergy group and a pastor. A national tip line has also been established: 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Meanwhile, Godwin's killer, 37-year-old Steve Stephens, is on the run.

Philadelphia police said schools in the area were put on lockdown Monday afternoon while authorities investigated reported sightings of Stephens. "But we would have preferred it to not end this way". The video of Godwin's death was uploaded to Stephens' Facebook page where it stayed on the site for three hours before it was taken down.

Despite being wracked with grief and anger over the tragic loss of their father, Godwin's children are honoring his memory by extending grace to his murderer. No one reported it, according to Facebook.

"We received reports about the third video, containing the man's live confession, only after it had ended", he said.

The incident was the latest disturbing crime captured on Facebook video in the United States, including the alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old girl, two fatal shootings, and the kidnapping and torture of a disabled 18-year-old man.

In the video, Stephens said he "snapped" over a woman and claimed to have killed more than a dozen other people. "He took our dad", Godwin's daughter Tammy told CNN on Monday night. "My heart is just broke".

He said his agency hopes to find Stephens and bring closure to Godwin's family.

In the separate video, Stephens said: "I killed 13, so I'm working on 14 as we speak".

"I don't really want to see it", he said.

The company said yesterday it would review how it monitors violent footage and other objectionable material in response to the killing.
