Facebook video murder suspect Steve Stephens kills himself after chase

Facebook murder suspect Steve Stephens has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Erie, Pa. No one else was hurt. In it, he said, "I snapped, I just snapped".

It was a special kind of anguish, said Naujia Godwin, a daughter of the shooting victim. "Can you say, 'Joy Lane?'" the suspect asks Godwin, referring to a woman authorities have identified as Stephen's former girlfriend. Steve Stephens should still be considered armed and risky.

Steve Stephens was spotted Tuesday morning by state police in Erie County.

He said his father, a retired foundry worker, collected aluminum cans and was probably looking for cans when Stephens approached him. Stephens said he had no time to wait and drove off, DuCharme said.

Authorities had urged the killer to turn himself in.

It wasn't immediately clear where Stephens had been since Sunday.

A nationwide manhunt is underway for Steve Stephens.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Stephens, described as a six-foot one-inch, 244-pound (1.85 m, 110-kilo) black man with a full beard, who was last seen in a white Ford Fusion with temporary license plates.

Mourners gathered on Monday evening to remember Robert Godwin Sr., who was shot and killed Sunday in the Facebook shooting on E. 93rd Street in Cleveland.

He posted video of that shooting on Facebook. Police, offering a $50,000 reward for information, received more than 400 tips, from as far away as Texas.

According to The Mirror, Godwin Snr's distraught family members have held a vigil for the father of 10, grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather.

The search for 37-year-old Steve Stephens is entering its third day. Police say they do no know his current location or whether or not he has fled the state. The FBI and U.S. Marshals are aiding in the investigation. He said the area had also been searched on April 16. Authorities in Cleveland have expanded their manhunt nationwide for Stephens, a man suspected of gunning down a retiree and posting a video of the crime on Facebook. Frederick tells Cleveland.com he recalls Stephens as nice and jovial, not negative.

The company, which recently began to allow advertising breaks in live video streams, has also tried to automate the process for flagging offensive material.

Law enforcement officials had said on Monday that Stephens' cellphone was last tracked Sunday afternoon near Erie, about 100 miles east of Cleveland.

Police would not speculate on what was behind the killing, but in the video and other footage he posted, Stephens talked about losing everything he had to gambling and having trouble with his girlfriend.

Facebook on Monday said it is reviewing its "reporting flows" to improve how the platform will handle videos of violence and other offensive content shared on the social media site.

"We know we need to do better", a company executive said.
