According to the airline, the resumption of commercial flight operations to Abuja airport followed the successful rehabilitation of its runway by the Federal Government.

"We will be ready April 17 but we are leaving the remaining two days for Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)".

Earlier, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Saleh Dunoma, had said the runway was fully ready for reopening, adding that it had been completely cleaned up.

The runway, which was constructed in 1982 was meant to last for 20 years, but had been in use for 35 years without major repairs and maintenance.

The fix of the runway has further intensified our enthusiasm to deliver the best flight experience to our valued guests in a very safe atmosphere.

"By this, we are declaring that the airport and its runway are quite operational at the time that has been determined as the official opening of this airport".

It said that it was operating a daily flight to Kaduna.

"The normal thing is to inform the aviation world through what we called, Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and that has been done and all aviators now know the airport is ready for reopening".

"It will be normal routine calibration which will be applicable to other airports that are due for recalibration", he said.

"That is why all equipment have been evacuated from the runway. The runway is cleared".

"The Ethiopian's brand new Airbus A350-900 is landing in Abuja airport tomorrow (Tuesday) as the first aircraft to land on the newly rehabilitated runway and first airbus to land in Abuja".

However the Ethiopian Airline got a water salute as the first Aircraft to land on the newly rehabilitated Abuja International Airport.

Traffic is expected to return to Abuja from April 19 as many airlines are already putting plans in place to return their operation to the airport.

The rehabilitation of the runway alone gulped N5.8 billion (about $18.4m), a far cry from the initial N63.5 billion (about $425m) the government had aimed to spend on the construction of a second runway for the same airport in 2010.

"At Air Peace, the safety of our esteemed guests is our first rule of business".

One of the local airlines, Air Peace on Monday said it will resume flight operations at airport on Wednesday.

"Although the decision to shut the facility to traffic came at a huge cost for us, nothing compares with safety".

"Kaduna has a lot of potential, hence, we made a decision to maintain daily presence there", it said.
