North Korea accuses US of creating situation for nuclear war

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is expected to reassure Japan of American commitment to reining in North Korea's nuclear and missile ambitions on Tuesday, after warning that U.S. strikes in Syria and Afghanistan showed the strength of its resolve.

As the high-stakes standoff continues between the USA and North Korea, American Vice President Mike Pence has ratcheted up the pressure on Pyongyang, warning that that further nuclear or missile testing could trigger a response from Washington.

Trump has suggested that the US will take a tougher stance against North Korea, telling reporters last week: "North Korea is a problem". "We're going to work with China and see if they do more".

Later, the Bush administration tried global pressure with the so-called "six party talks", but those failed too, and North Korea launched its first nuclear test in 2006.

I am afraid the answer is no.

China does, however, retain the power to choke North Korea's vulnerable economy by shutting off oil supplies. The U.S. has to kind of convince the Chinese we're not looking for strategic advantage over them.

Warning of "all-out war" if the United States takes military action, he added: "If the United States is planning a military attack against us, we will react with a nuclear pre-emptive strike by our own style and method".

Why are China's demands likely to be so rigid? So Trump has taken a different tack: seeking to incentivize China into stepping up its role in the North Korean issue as he stressed the urgency of confronting the threat.

According to the New York Times, Pence told the us troops that the "era of strategic patience is over".

The North Korean regime began its nuclear program in earnest during the Clinton administration, which tried to prevent its buildup with a diplomatic agreement. On April 5, the South Korean military reported a North Korea missile test in Sinpho, South Hamgyong province, after which the Japanese and South Korean governments both held emergency meetings.

"You want the Chinese to do the right on North Korea because it genuinely is a threat. not as a favor", said Medeiros.

Pyongyang insists it needs a powerful arsenal - including atomic weapons - to protect itself from what it says is the ever-present threat of United States invasion.

According to the adviser, the test had been expected and the US had good intelligence both before and after the launch.

"We want to see North Korea abandon its reckless path of the development of nuclear weapons, and also its continual use and testing of ballistic missiles is unacceptable", Pence said during a visit to the demilitarized zone that separates North and South Korea. That thought should get the Chinese to move.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration declined to name any major trading partner as a currency manipulator in a highly anticipated report on Friday, backing away from a key Trump campaign promise to slap such a label on China. There are more countries that have said publicly the situation can't continue.

China is considered key to changing North Korea's behavior because it is an economic lifeline for its much smaller neighbor.

At a press conference in NY on Monday, Kim In Ryong, North Korean ambassador to the UN, accused the United States of disturbing global peace and stability, using "gangster-like logic" and being "hell-bent on risky saber rattling in South Korea".

US retail sales dropped more than expected in March while annual core inflation slowed to 2.0 percent, the smallest advance since November 2015, from 2.2 percent in February, data showed on Friday.
