Cleveland Offers $50000 Reward For Steve Stephens As Search Expands Nationwide

Despite rumors of numerous sightings, police say Stephens' last confirmed location is the murder scene at 695 East 93rd Street.

A makeshift memorial sits along a fence today near where Robert Godwin Sr., was killed in Cleveland.

Authorities in OH gave an update on the manhunt for Facebook killing suspect Steve Stephens that has stretched into a third day Tuesday.

"I can only give you my only personal opinion based on the past", Pete Elliott of the Cleveland U.S. Marshals said.

Authorities are hoping a reward will help them capture the man accused of shooting an elderly man at random Sunday and posting the grizzly footage on Facebook.

Police said Stephens used Facebook to post a video of him killing Robert Godwin snr (74), who is seen standing on a sidewalk carrying a plastic shopping bag.

The shooting marked the latest video clip of a violent crime to turn up on Facebook, raising questions about how the world's biggest social media network moderates content. "But we know we need to do better". "He could be far away or anywhere in between", Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Stephen Anthony said.

Law enforcement officials had said on Monday that Stephens' cellphone was last tracked Sunday afternoon near Erie, about 100 miles (160 kilometres) east of Cleveland.

Some of those who know Stephens described him as pleasant and kind, while some said he had a gambling problem. He filed for bankruptcy two years ago.

Stephens later posted video of the shooting on Facebook. "It was always good things", Lee said.

Cleveland's police chief earlier said on Tuesday that authorities had received more than 400 tips, including as far away as Texas.

One of Godwin's daughters, Debbie Godwin, said she wished Stephens had been captured. "I snapped, I just snapped", Stephens said. "He wasn't harming anyone".

A vigil was held in Cleveland on Monday evening, with dozens of family, friends and community members gathering to remember Godwin.

In the video, Stephens names a woman and tells the victim, Robert Godwin Sr., that "she's the reason that this is about to happen to you". Godwin did not seem to recognize the woman's name.

Lane said that she has been in a relationship with Stephens for several years, adding that she is "sorry this has happened".

"We called him the junk man", she said.

The video of the killing was on Facebook for about three hours before it was taken down.

Officers searched dozens of places around Cleveland without finding Stephens or any other victims before expanding the manhunt.

They said they have had no contact with the suspect, Steve Stephens, since Sunday, when they tried to persuade him to surrender while talking to him on his cellphone after the shooting.
