Rangers focusing on playing better in Game 4 vs. Canadiens

The game wasn't as physical as the first two games with the Rangers outhitting Montreal 41-31, which reflected the Canadiens' edge in puck possession.

Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price, left, gets up off the ice while other players scuffle nearby during the first period in Game 3 of an NHL hockey first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers, Sunday, April 16, 201. Except for Henrik Lundqvist, the team looked anemic in their 3-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

And now their series against Montreal is even.

"We have to at least find a way to get momentum off the power play instead of giving them momentum...if we can find ways to stay out of the box and limit their chances (that's good), but it's just executing, which is one of our main focuses for (Game 4) Tuesday".

Montreal Canadiens' Artturi Lehkonen, right, celebrates with Brendan Gallagher, left, and Jeff Petry (26) after scoring during the second period in Game 3 of an NHL hockey first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers, . Now they will try to carry that over into Game 5 in Edmonton on Thursday night.

The Rangers utilized their speed and forecheck throughout the game, something several players said was lacking in Sunday's 3-1 loss in Game 3.

"We have to bring the new momentum that we create from tonight into the next game", Nash said. But, more so, they desperately needed themselves.

The Rangers won their final two regular-season games at MSG but lost eight in a row before that.

With 4:25 left in the game, Radulov made a decision to seal the deal, as he scored Montreal's third of the night on a ridiculous one-handed effort, controlling the puck despite pressure from New York's defence and tucking it past Lundqvist in a brilliant show of skill and finesse.

Lundqvist kept the game scoreless in the first period, as he made several point-blank stops among his 10 saves during the opening 20 minutes while Price only had to make six saves.

"It just goes with the play", Radulov said.

Meanwhile, Lundqvist was brilliant, stopping subsequent breakaways by Andrew Shaw and Torrey Mitchell.

He finished with 23 saves while only allowing one goal when the Canadiens had a 2-on-1 advantage. Alexander Radulov started the play by winning a puck battle in the neutral zone and triggering a 2-on-1 with Mitchell and Shea Weber.

The Canadiens went 0-for-3 with the extra man and had only two shots on goal.

Officiating aside, Rick Nash was able to put the Rangers back in the lead early in the second period, with a strong move along the goal line.

"It was a great play by Ryan McDonagh to find me going to the net". I came in because I saw that we outnumbered them. "There were a couple of chances where we got pucks to the net and the rebounds were sitting there, and we have to dig a little deeper to come up with those second chances". Montreal had some good chances in the first, but after that we controlled the game.

After only scoring two goals combined in the first two games of the series, Columbus scored three goals in just over six minutes of the first period.

The trio also featured on the first power play unit during practice, which indicates that Tanner Glass may be coming out of the lineup. The Rangers' previous home playoff win was in Game 1 of the 2015 Eastern Conference Final against Tampa Bay. The previous fastest playoff goal for San Jose came 28 seconds into the game by Dany Heatley against Los Angeles in 2011.
