Rocket Launch To Be Shown In Live 360-Degree Video

To view in 360, you need to use a mouse or move a personal device to look up and down, back and forth, for a 360-degree view around Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. Tuesday's dispatch will commence Orbital's seventh contracted flight.

In the wake of a spectacular 2014 Antares launch failure, the company made a decision to replace the booster's Russian-built first-stage engines with more modern engines, also built in Russia. The primary weather concern for launch is cumulus clouds. On board, a new experiment to grow plants in space.

Resupply spacecraft typically rendezvous with the station over two to three days, but the Cygnus will loiter in orbit until Saturday morning, staying well clear of the space lab until after the arrival of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft Thursday morning.

Today's launch is particularly special for Orbital ATK since it honors astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth, who died in December at the age of 95.

On April 18th a giant Atlas-5 rocket will launch a scientific satellite from Cape Canaveral in Florida. Orbital is trying to increase the amount of payload that the Cygnus can carry on both the Atlas and the Antares, and the company plans to launch its next mission on the Antares as early as this summer.

A dedicated astronaut's name will be remembered with tomorrow's launch of Orbital ATK's OA-7 Cygnus. During that time, astronauts will unload the Cygnus, including research dedicated to range of fields such as astronomy, biology, crystal growth and technology development.

Tuesday's successful launch followed a month's delay while United Launch Alliance, a partnership of Lockheed Martin LMT.N and Boeing Co BA.N , resolved a technical issue with the rocket's hydraulic system. Prior to the entry, the craft will serve as a platform for the Saffire-3 experiment to study flame development in the microgravity environment.

The AF is also predicting the same 90 percent chance of "go" conditions at launch time.

Tuesday's launch is also set to feature the first 360-degree livestream of a rocket launch.
