Suspect in Fresno shooting posted 'white devils'

"He does not like white people", Dyer said, citing the suspect's statements after being arrested and his Facebook postings.

The other victims were shot nearby during a rampage that lasted about a minute and during which up to 16 rounds were fired.

But Fresno police chief Jerry Dyer said indications were it was not a "terrorist-related crime" and a probe was under way to determine if the murders qualified as a hate crime.

Public records show Kori Ali Muhammad, who is accused of going on a shooting spree in Downtown Fresno, has a criminal record out of Sacramento. The Arabic phrase translates to “God is the greatest.”.

The victims, all white males, appear to be the target of a racially-motivated attack by Muhammad who reportedly expressed dislike of whites in Facebook posts, according to Dyer.

Lieutenant Mark Hudson, a police spokesman, told AFP the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been contacted about the killings and it was too early to say whether they were terror-related. The first victim was shot in a Pacific Gas and Electric utility truck, the Bee reported. The driver managed to flee the scene and drove to Fresno Police headquarters for help.

Muhammad, 39, will face four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder, officials said.

Three people were shot dead and a fourth injured in Fresno, California on Tuesday before a suspect was apprehended by authorities.

Imam Seyed Ali Ghazvini of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno said Muhammad is "not known in our community, and we are in touch with other communities to see if he was a member or not". Local Muslim leaders said that they do not know him. The security guard also was a white man. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our employee, and all those impacted by this tragic event.

Fresno is an agricultural hub in California's central valley, about 170 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Catholic Charities doesn't believe Muhammad has ties to the nonprofit, spokeswoman Teresa Dominguez said.

Fresno County government offices are on a lockdown alert.

Police say two of the victims may have been clients of Catholic Charities, which provides a variety of services for refugees, the homeless and those for disabilities.
