All options need to be explored to rein in North Korea

North Korea's isolated totalitarian regime marked the birthday of founder Kim Il Song over the weekend with a massive military parade and an attempted missile launch, but the spectacle wouldn't have been complete without a new animated video portraying a fiery end to the United States.

Even as the military options are reviewed and updated, Defense Secretary James Mattis is also underscoring the need for a non-military solution. He said the US and its allies would deal with the situation "through peaceable means or ultimately by whatever means are necessary". Should North Korea collapse and South Korea absorb it, the reunified Korea won't have nukes.

Pyongyang is continuing to talk up its ambitions for a nuclear weapon capable of striking the U.S. mainland. "We're not going to remove the military tool from our toolkit, '" Nau said.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has said he would expand America's nuclear arsenal to ensure it is at the "top of the pack" amid a heated war of words between the United States and North Korea. "All options are on the table, and there they will remain", he said in Tokyo. "North Korea's unlawful weapons programs represent a clear, grave threat to USA national security".

The Trump administration is hoping that China will help rein in North Korea in exchange for other considerations.

They worry that President Donald Trump's tough, unorthodox talk about North Korea's nuclear program is boosting already-high animosity between the rival Koreas.

In March, Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, said the USA and North Korea were on a collision course. The situation escalates as the cycle continues, making things more risky for China and South Korea, not the U.S. Shen argues that if Washington and Beijing fail to find a peaceful way to resolve the crisis in Korea, then the two will need to cooperate on a military response to properly address this issue. A number of municipalities are testing community alarm systems and planning evacuation drills as concerns run high around US military bases.

Later Monday, Pence said in a joint statement alongside South Korean Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn that the United States' commitment to its ally is "iron-clad and immutable". Contemporary North Korea continues with this mentality.

"The truth seems to be that the US military and president jointly created fake news and it is without doubt a rare scandal in USA history, which will be bound to cripple Trump's and USA dignity", it said.

The situation on the Korean peninsula has heated up over the past several months.

A series of United Nations sanctions have been levied against North Korea since it detonated its first nuclear weapon in 2006 but that has not stopped the country from continuing its missile and nuclear programs. In foreign policy, economics, politics, everything, the interests of China and North Korea had diverged, and the basis for an alliance had disintegrated.

That was interpreted by some as a slap at Kim's regime by Beijing.

Ahn said North Korea is instead stepping up its atomic weapons and missile development, with the potential for yet another nuclear test later this year. For decades, North Korea has told its heavily militarized, state-run society that any aggressions against the nation would be answered with force.

Trump said with North Korea, no one has ever seen such a such a positive response from China on America's behalf.

That two-week window overlaps with North Korea's military foundation day on April 25.

Lee Gee-dong, head of the Strategic Team on North Korea at the Seoul-based Institute for National Security Strategy, said, "Though it may not be immediate, if North Korea conducts a strategic provocation such as a sixth nuclear test or launches an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Beijing will have to use the halting of oil exports card".
