21st Century stock rises after O'Reilly firing

Years of sexual harassment allegations and settlements finally caught up to Bill O'Reilly Wednesday, when 21 {+s} t Century Fox parted ways with Fox News Channel's biggest star and the most popular personality on cable TV news.

The U.S. Attorney's office in NY is investigating how 21st Century Fox handled the Roger Ailes scandal.

And while many of Fox's more devoted viewers will believe O'Reilly's claim that these are "unfounded" allegations, many will also look at their wives, sisters and daughters and think, this wasn't right, and he almost got away with it.

"Fox News needs to show Bill O'Reilly the door without a multi-million dollar payday", O'Neill said in a statement.

On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah chose to go through O'Reilly's entire career.

"It was embarrassing, so I just got to a point where I was not looking at him", she said. In recent weeks, The New York Times revealed that O'Reilly and the network had reached settlements with five women who had complained against him, with compensation totaling nearly $13 million.

As previously reported, O'Reilly was forced out at Fox News after sexual harassment allegations.

The host of the nightly news show "The O'Reilly Factor" has been at the center of massive scandal following a story published by The New York Times earlier this month, which detailed how he has faced a series of sexual harassment allegations and other inappropriate behavior in the past. "The loss of that huge income to Fox News Channel I think really caused them to have to look at the benefits and the risks of keeping Mr. O'Reilly and I think they understood that there was no way to reverse what became a PR disaster and justify keeping him on Fox News Channel".

Longtime Fox critics don't see it. Fox News has a "culture of harassment that did not start and does not end with Bill O'Reilly", said Rashad Robinson, executive director of the activist group Color of Change, which pressured advertisers to leave his show.

"He helped shape the kind of very polarized discourse that has come to define politics over the past few years in America", Hollihan said. Exactly two weeks later, O'Reilly was dismissed.

When Ailes was sued, Fox asked the law firm Paul, Weiss to conduct an internal investigation. If you're going to defund Bill O'Reilly, it would seem to me that you shouldn't be involved in things with the Clinton Foundation.

"If O'Reilly would have stayed in his position, there might have been other women who would have come forward", said Marlene Morris Towns, an adjunct marketing professor at Georgetown University.

"But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today", he said.
