The No. 2 U.S. airline said it had canceled around 3,000 flights in the wake of Wednesday's storms that left passengers stranded and frustrated during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
More than 700 boxes of pie were delivered to passengers stranded in Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and other airports in the Southeast.
Delta said Sunday afternoon its operations were stabilizing but there weren't enough crews available to staff its flights, in part because of federal regulations on rest for crews.
"We know it's not fun to be stuck on the ground somewhere", Delta corporate communications manager Michael Thomas told the newspaper. Delta officials said in a statement, "While we can't control the weather, we understand the resulting recovery has not been ideal and we apologize for that".
