The Madras High Court today allowed the plea of Tamil actor Dhanush for quashing an elderly couple's lawsuit claiming that he was their runaway son and seeking maintenance.
R. Kathiresan (65) and K. Meenakshi (53) of Melur near here had filed the maintenance case by claiming that Dhanush was their son K. Kalaichelvan who dropped out of Class XI in 2002 and went to Chennai to pursue his interest in acting.
In November previous year, the couple, Kathiresan and Meenakshi, had claimed that Dhanush was their son who ran away from a hostel when he was in Class 11 and wanted him to pay a monthly maintenance. However, the actor had moved the Madurai bench of the HC requesting quashing of the proceedings in the lower court, citing lack of evidence in the case.
They realised that Dhanush was their son after watching him in his movies.
Their efforts to meet him in Chennai did not succeed, they said. To everyone's surprise, the doctors made a detailed report which says that there are no birth marks on Dhanush as claimed by the old couple from Madurai.
Dhanush had approached the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to set aside the proceedings in the magistrate's court saying that the case was aimed at extracting money from him. They produced a birth certificate along with a couple of photos to prove their claims. He even underwent tests on his body marks to check the correctness of the claims of the couple claiming to be Dhanush's original parents.
