Antonio Conte Matteo Darmian reveals secret to Chelsea manager's success

Tianjin Quanjian are still trying to sign Chelsea star Diego Costa, the Chinese Super League side's owner has revealed, as they look to compete with Europe's elite clubs in the transfer market.

'We have high standards [in buying foreign players] and those players prefer top clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

"I can tell you the players we want are also the targets of these clubs, so we have to pay bigger price to beat them".

But with Super League clubs allowed to sign players again from June 19, Tianjin have again stepped up their interest in the Spain global having been linked with a move for the 28-year-old before the start of the season when they brought in both Pato and Witsel.

The 28-year-old's contract at Stamford Bridge runs out in the summer of 2019 but he has had had a hard second half of the season and rumours have re-surfaced over his unhappiness with life in London.

The Spaniard's form has dipped badly since the turn of the year, as he's scored just three goals in his last 12 games, with Chelsea seeing Tottenham close the gap to just four points in the Premier League title race.

The Spain global was heavily linked with a move to China's lucrative top flight in January but made a decision to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Over the past couple of years, a number of renowned footballers including Ezequiel Lavezzi, Carlos Tevez and Graziano Pelle, have made the move to clubs in the Chinese Super League.

Antonio Conte has reportedly started planning for life without Costa, with both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez thought to be on the Italian's wishlist.

Whether that's with or without Costa remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain.
