Alexis Sanchez : Wenger says no exceptional salary measures for Chilean star

Alexis Sanchez was again influential for Arsenal on Monday as he struck a fine free kick to equalise for Arsene Wenger's side en route to a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger's men survived the last 20 minutes to secure the three points and leapfrog Everton into sixth, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City who have played a game more.

But despite the crucial win, as the Gunners try desperately to claw their way back in to the top four and snatch Champions League football for next season, Wenger says the three-man tactic is not a long-term plan.

"We can do that, but also we will have to - had we not won against Middlesbrough I would have conceded that the top four was beyond us".

Wenger surprised many by fielding an experimental back-three, for the first time in his 20-year reign at Arsenal manager.

"Sometimes when a team lacks confidence, changing the system helps the team to believe in something different", Wenger said. I felt we were recently a bit vulnerable defensively.

"When you are in a lack of confidence situation it comes back slowly and only the results help", added the Frenchman.

PSG are set to make their first move to sign Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez, but he isn't the only Gunners star they're targeting, according to Yahoo.

But wins are needed and needed quickly. You can always find explanations but we are professional people and our job is to perform. "We need to take responsibility for that", he said.

'It's a massive honour to play for Arsenal and you have to give it 100 per cent - week in, week out.

"We needed to head out as well as return to the basic principles and that's making sure our obligation amounts were right. They played with such an intensity, I couldn't ask any more of them". Even then, Manchester City could afford to drop four points from its final six games, with a goal difference now superior to Arsenal's.

So against Manchester City in the FA Cup semifinal on Sunday, can they really risk the former Real Madrid player against a team that will pose far greater problems than relegation-threatened Boro?
