Iran foreign minister says US must meet own obligations for nuclear deal

President Donald J. Trump has directed a National Security Council-led interagency review of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that will evaluate whether suspension of sanctions related to Iran pursuant to the [agreement] is vital to the national security interests of the United States.

"I think they are doing a tremendous disservice to an agreement that was signed", said Trump, adding "we're analyzing it very, very carefully and we'll have something to say about it in the not-too-distance future".

Trump, who repeatedly blasted the Iran accord during the president campaign, kept up the attacks Thursday.

The secretary also said, a bit confusingly, in a public statement at the State Department yesterday, that "The JCPOA fails to achieve the objective of a non-nuclear Iran".

"We see here a non-productive approach when completely different issues are rolled into one", Ryabkov said. "It has teed up legislation for additional sanctions for state sponsorship of terrorism by Iran, but they are probably going to wait on it until the Iranian election which is on May 19", Ms, Sherman said.

Iran says its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful purposes but signed a deal with world powers to restrict its fuel enrichment for 10 years in exchange for sanctions relief.

Tillerson accused Iran of "alarming ongoing provocations" to destabilize countries in the Middle East.

The Trump administration is reviewing its Iran policy, including a major evaluation and possible overhaul of the JCPOA, intent with curbing Iran's nuclear program, yet is being criticized as failing to address all concerns. "Therefore, any claims are irrelevant here, it seems to me", Ulyanov said. But the USA must decide next month whether to renew a waiver so that Iran can continue receiving sanctions relief.

A senior adviser said last month that the US will continue to adhere to the deal and "will also work very hard to make sure that Iran does".

The Iran lobby, in particular the NIAC (National Iranian American Council) were calling for the approval and used the decision as proof that the nuclear deal is working.

Tillerson's language was similar to that used by other top Trump administration officials to describe the new USA policy toward North Korea. "It's very hard to say, 'We are ripping it up.'" But he also said that he would be vigilant in policing that contract.

Instead, Iliichev said, "we're invited to consider as terrorists those who are fighting these groups", he said.

Despite US President Donald Trump labelling his first 100 days in office as an "artificial" marker, the White House is still eager to tout progress on the agenda items he promised to fulfil following his January 20 inauguration. Yet with one exception - an Asia-Pacific trade deal that already had stalled in Congress - Trump's administration has quietly laid the groundwork to honor the worldwide architecture of deals it has inherited.

The nuclear deal was reached in Vienna in July 2015 between Iran and Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.

In the last several weeks, the Trump White House has put a variety of Iran's cronies on notice.
