The Patriots go to Washington - some of them, at least

American president Donald Trump welcomed Super Bowl champions New England Patriots to the White House on Wednesday.

Trump claimed he saw a crowd that "looked like a million and a half people" and White House spokesman Sean Spicer claimed the "dishonest" media framed the photos to make the president's crowd look smaller.

"Patriots' turnout for President Obama in 2015 vs. Patriots' turnout for President Trump today", the New York Times tweeted along with photos from both events. He continued to day that the Pats had done something special, and they are all proud of it, and will be for years to come. In fact, a quick scan of photos through the years suggests that the high attendance at the Obama White House in 2015 was an anomaly-which nonetheless can't be welcome news for Trump. Staff members who traveled with the team for Wednesday's visit were seated on the South Lawn at the time the photo was taken.

Quarterback Tom Brady pulled out of attending at the last minute, citing "personal family matters".

The Times has since posted an updated tweet about the matter acknowledging that the Patriots says its "total delegation" to the White House in 2015 and 2017 "was roughly the same".

Some players declined to visit the controversial president.

Paulo Dybala hailed for "extraordinary" goalscoring display in Juventus win over Barcelona
Wily and hardened, the Old Lady refused to allow Barcelona room to breathe at the Juventus Stadium. "Paulo has improved enormously over the last two years".

"With your backs against the wall, and the pundits - good old pundits, boy, they're wrong a lot, aren't they? - saying you couldn't do it, the game was over, you pulled off the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time". And the Patriots can get back to preparing for their next visit.

Also not addressed in the ceremony was the morning news of former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez's suicide.

The team added that the size of the group was similar to when they celebrated with President George W. Bush in 2004 and 2005.

Blount, who led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns this season, told NFL Network's Rich Eisen, "I just don't feel welcome in that house, I'm going to just leave it at that".

The New England Patriots were at the White House to be honoured for their Super Bowl win.
