Anichebe slams naive Sunderland players

Sunderland are to appeal the red card shown to Sebastian Larsson during Sunday's defeat to Manchester United, according to Sky sources.

Referee Craig Pawson produced a straight red but replays suggested only minimal contact and Sunderland have chose to contest the decision.

Anichebe says manager David Moyes is always on to his players to remain tight as a unit, stay in the game and maintain their concentration levels even if they go a goal down.

"This season's been particularly hard because, over the years I've become one of those managers with a really high win rate, a really high success rate and, now, suddenly I've been losing all the time", Moyes said.

"I don't want to make you think it's the referee's fault, it's not that".

But after the match boss David Moyes claimed Larsson should not even have been booked for the tackle, in which he won the ball. Do I think he's ready to play 90 minutes? No. [Before they scored] we were hanging in the game and staying in the game and trying to do our best.

Victor Anichebe's return to the side has offered hope that Sunderland can at least end the season closer to being on the front foot, the Nigerian a crucial part of the side, going close against both Leicester City and Manchester United upon his return.

Anichebe, who only arrived at the Stadium of Light in September 2016, says it is the Sunderland fans he is sorry for and lamented the lack of games left to turn the situation around.

For Sunderland, the league table does not make for easy viewing as they are 20th, with 17th placed Hull a considerable 10 points ahead of them. Decisions go against you and at the moment, these decisions are going against us. "As a team, we'll need to create a good performance to get a good result". "That seems to be what happens when you are not doing so well".

"I wish I had time, or we had time, but we don't".
