Have full faith in judiciary: UP BJP on SC's Babri order

Babri Masjid demolition SC to pronounce verdict on involvement of senior BJP leaders today

The Supreme Court today restored conspiracy charges against BJP leaders LK Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti and others. With the clubbing of the cases and revival of the conspiracy charges, the senior BJP leaders would be tried under the composite charge sheet filed by the CBI on Oct 5, 1993.

Many Hindus believe the Babri mosque was only built after the destruction of a temple that marks the birthplace of their god Ram.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday claimed that the reopening of Babri Masjid demolition case is clearly aimed at nixing the presidential bid of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani.

The court, however, exempted Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, who was Uttar Pradesh chief minister at the time of demolition, from facing trial as of now. The Court also directed that the trial should proceed on a day to day basis and be completed within two years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also huddled with party chief Amit Shah and Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and M Venkaiah Naidu, at his residence.

Top BJP leaders on Wednesday discussed the political and legal fallout of the Supreme Court verdict on the Babri mosque demolition. But his trial will begin after his term in office ends.

Former union minister and Congress leader Kapil Sibal equated the apex court's order with a film titled "20 saal baad". "Therefore, reviving conspiracy charges comes as a move to correct the delay in delivering the judgement and punishing those who were directly involved with the demolition of the Babri Masjid", Tulsi told ANI. Also, the proceedings of the court related to the FIR are at different stages.

The criminal case in Raebareli court stands shifted to the Lucknow court.

6 December 1992 - The disputed structure on Ramjanmabhooomi at Ayodhya was razed by hundreds of "karsevaks".

The apex court verdict was on a CBI plea challenging the Allahabad High Court order quashing the conspiracy charge against Advani and others.

The incident enraged Muslims in the country by sparking communal riots which resulted in around 3000 deaths.

The Supreme Court also said that the case shall be transferred within four weeks from Rai Bareliey to Lucknow.
