Standing, the man went to the front of the plane to confront the flight attendants and asked for the name of the employee who allegedly hit the woman. The incident captured on video occurred before the flight took off from San Francisco International Airport.

A video shot in the aftermath shows a heated argument involving crew, several passengers and a crying woman holding a baby.

Video taken inside the plane shows a sobbing woman, who was holding a baby, pleading to flight attendants that her stroller be returned. Surain Adyanthaya, who posted the video to Facebook on Friday, said that before the footage, the flight attendant had "violently" taken the stroller, hitting the woman in the process and narrowly missing her baby. The woman wept, other passengers got out their cellphones to document the episode, and a male passenger chose to invene, after which he was told to stay out of the emotional confrontation.

"You can't use violence with a baby", the woman says. "I don't want to make a big deal about it", Fierro said.

United initially blamed its passenger, Dr David Dao, before finally apologising days after the incident, intensifying the public's fury. The airlines said she did speak English, and she had flown from Argentina to the USA but forgot she needed to check in the stroller and tried to bring it on the plane with her.

They then concluded that the flight attendant has been "removed from duty", while they investigate the incident. What we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers.

Scott said the female passenger and her children ended up choosing to take another flight and were upgraded to first class for the remainder of their worldwide trip. "We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected", the airline said in its statement.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants is defending an American Airlines worker after an apparent altercation with a passenger carrying an infant. The captain appears to put his hand on the flight attendant's chest.

Moments later, the male flight attendant returns to the plane.

American Airlines said the male flight attendant in the video had been suspended from flying while the investigation takes place.

The incident aboard the American flight comes as United Airlines faces heightened scrutiny for an incident in which a passenger was forcibly dragged off a flight after he refused to give up his seat to a United employee.

"Hey, bud", he says to the flight attendant.

Another passenger, Olivia Morgan, witnessed the events unfold as she was about to board the plane with her 8-year-old daughter.

The video has been viewed more than 3 million times by Saturday evening and more accounts from passengers on the flight have been circulating on social media, which have added more context to this dispute but most agree that the employee should not have become confrontational. We are making sure all of her family's needs are being met while she is in our care.
