Shocking breach of security, says Rahul on Aadhaar fiasco

The breach came to light when the Ranchi Unique Identity Authority of India informed the state's Department of Women and Child and Social Security about the breach.

It's unclear for how long the data had been displayed on the website.

That clarification comes after sensitive details, like bank account numbers, of nearly one million pensioners' were leaked by the Jharkhand government website.

As per Aadhaar Act, this data should have been kept as protected, and hidden from public eyes.

Jharkhand has over 1.6 million old-age pensioners.

The Worst Tech Gadgets
Take a look at some of them below. 2016 Samsung Galaxy Note 7 During the month of August 2016, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was released. It was said to be capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D graphics, promising players they could enjoy their own private universe.

As per the investigation, a database of these 1.4 million pensioners was accessible on Saturday.

The breach of privacy of Aadhar number holders is in contravention of Section 29 (4) of the Aadhaar Act. In what may further strengthen the criticism of Aadhaar, a Jharkhand website has reportedly leaked Aadhaar data of about 1.4 million people. "We are aware of the seriousness (of the matter) and we will try to find out how and from where this mistake happened", Director Social Security, Ram Parvesh, said, according to Indian Express.

Earlier this year, cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Aadhaar details were inadvertently leaked on social media, which led his wife, Sakshi, to complain to the Union Law and Information and Technology Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad. Apart from security breaches, Aadhaar is plagued in other controversies, such as denial of legal benefits to citizens on account of malfunctioning machines or faulty biometric data collection. "Demographic and biometric data can not be leaked from the IT ministry at any cost", he said this while intervening in the matter raised by CPI (M) member M B Rajesh.

In a bid to make the Aadhaar card a single identification proof, the government has extended its use to getting a driving licence, filing income tax returns, linking it to the PAN card to extend its validity, to get a new PAN card, to continue with the existing mobile connection, and more.

Supreme Court will announce its verdict on the fate of Aadhaar Card being made mandatory, this week.
