Lawyers want Aaron Hernandez's murder conviction dismissed

Aaron Hernandez is arraigned in Attleboro District Court Wednesday

The lawyer says Kyle Kennedy was briefly put on suicide watch as a matter of protocol, but isn't on suicide watch now.

Just to recap: The former Patriots star was found dead in his prison cell last Wednesday. The Pouncey brothers played with Hernandez at the University of Florida.

Some of those stepping from an endless succession of Mercedes-Benzes, BMWs and black Cadillac SUVs were National Football League twin centers Mike Pouncey of the Miami Dolphins, his brother Maurkice Pouncey of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and free agent linebacker Brandon Spikes, Hernandez's former Patriots teammate.

Ronald Sullivan is one of Hernandez's lawyers. Sources said the notes were addressed to his mother, fiancee, and four-year-old daughter, telling them "I love you and please don't cry".

In a brief statement after the service, Hernandez's family thanked the public for their condolences and said they wished to memorialize him in private, CNN affiliate WTNH reported.

Hernandez's appellate lawyers filed a motion Tuesday seeking to dismiss his conviction. Only days earlier he had been acquitted of murder charges in the shooting deaths of two men in Boston in 2012.

But in an exclusive interview with In Touch, Hernandez's cousin, Davina Hernandez, says the former NFLer never mentioned anything about Kennedy to her, though she admits she doesn't know exactly what his sexual orientation was.

Other mourners included prominent medical examiner Dr. Michael Baden, whom Hernandez's family retained to perform an independent autopsy.

Officials ruled last week that Hernandez died as a result of suicide in his cell, but with the investigation continuing, the letters that Hernandez left in his cell came under scrutiny.

Baden is joined by his wife, Linda Kenney Baden, a defense attorney.

Cook County, Illinois, also received a warning, even though it did not get money from the Justice Department previous year . The Department of Justice didn't back down in the face of the criticism from de Blasio, O'Neill and other officials though.

A MA lawmaker is asking for oversight hearings to examine suicides by both prison inmates and guards.

Citing federal data, Eldridge wrote that MA has the nation's fourth highest prisoner suicide rate.

The Massachusetts judge, Thomas McGuire, ordered that any notes relating to his suicide should be in possession of his family.

"The original information that the family was given was that there was no letters", Hernandez explains to the magazine.

CBS Boston learned last week that investigators found three hand-written notes in Hernandez's cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center.

About 100 people descended on the O'Brien Funeral Home yesterday for funeral services. According to sources, the inmate is now on suicide watch at the maximum-security Souza-Baranowski Corrections Center in Shirley, Mass. Inmates at SBCC had told investigators Hernandez may have been high on K2 the morning he killed himself.

The Associated Press left messages for the district attorney's office seeking comment on the filing.

Family and friends of Hernandez arrived Monday to say their farewells to the former National Football League player during a private funeral in his hometown.

Lynn Stanton said she and her son have known the Hernandez family for years. Burial was also private.
