Leafs' Zaitsev to make playoff debut in Game 3 vs. Capitals

After two overtime thrillers at the Verizon Center in Washington, the Toronto Maple Leafs (1-1) and the Washington Capitals (1-1) will head to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto for game 3 Monday night, in a 1-1 series.

Game 2 saw the Leafs once again scoring the first goal of the game, this time late into the first frame as James van Riemsdyk would put the puck in the back of the net for his first time of the 2017 playoffs.

Pressure has been a topic with the Capitals due to their recent playoff failures.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Washington is the favorite on the road, as the Capitals are getting odds of -145 to win, while the Maple Leafs are getting a money line of +125 to win.

On top of Toronto's best forwards catching fire, the Leafs' penalty kill snapped out of a playoff-worst funk, one that allowed the Capitals to score at a ridiculous 37.5 percent clip on the power play.

Toronto has trailed for fewer than four minutes in the series.

Washington coach Barry Trotz said the talent discrepancy between the first and eighth seeds isn't that much and that he believed the Maple Leafs belonged in the playoffs well before the series started. There's bounces, there's a little bit of luck but we can't leave it up to that.

"So let's just keep on going".

"He was outstanding in Game 1 and obviously he was no slouch tonight", said Morgan Rielly, who scored the Leafs third goal, following up on a solid series-opening performance. Perhaps it should be just as concerning what the team will look like should they win. If they can handle it, there might be no better teaching atmosphere for a young team than the game's most dramatic stage. I think we can get a little more movement. The Maple Leafs need to stay out of the penalty box (he says, making the most obvious statement in the world).

Toronto's defense has taken a hit with the injury to Roman Polak.

"I don't know, there's a lot of crap going on out there", Komarov said. They want to win for each other.

"You play all year, you create a foundation in order to get the job done in the playoffs".

Trump Set to Call for Big US Corporate Tax Cut
However, US media reports suggest the plan, to be announced later today, will fall short of providing enough detail for a bill. The argument that tax cuts pay for themselves has been debunked by economists from across the political spectrum.

It's hard for a lot of coaches to trust rookies in situations. You can't play dirty, but when you have a good hit, it's fun.

And it seems what most pundits, who nearly unanimously picked the Caps, didn't account for before the series started was the Leafs' youngsters matching the Capitals stars stride for stride.

"They cut his minutes this season to get him ready for the playoffs, and I've always thought that when you have the big players like that - he can truck, he can fly - you've got to get them warmed up, you've got to get their legs going", May said.

"I'm surprised how much energy they have (the Leafs are headed towards the 90-game mark)". "You'll get chills down your spine when you're on the bench for both teams".

I'm telling you, this is a Cinderella story in the making and it's a attractive site. "I thought they won all the battles and all the races".

Goalie Frederik Andersen was superb for the Maple Leafs and Kasperi Kapanen ended it midway through the second extra stanza with his second goal of the night.

The 25-year-old will replace Polak on a pairing with Jake Gardiner, a duo that should match up against the Capitals' top line of Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie. "He's been good, too. I've seen a lot out of Ovechkin and Backstrom in this series, so you can't pin the blame on them for the failures of the past and the failures of this series right now".

The Bruins played through a rash of injuries in the first two games, and were missing defensemen Adam McQuaid, Torey Krug, Brandon Carlo and Colin Miller on Monday.

"They definitely shifted the momentum for us", Matthews said. "But it seems like that team has the weight of the world on them".

Don Cherry doesn't understand what all the fuss is about over Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Nikita Zaitsev.

"Heroes are different every night usually in the playoffs", Capitals right winger Justin Williams said.
