John Kasich on North Korea: 'Eradicate the leadership'

Several of Kasich's New Hampshire supporters were on hand to hear their candidate speak. In a small gathering before his speech, he thanked key allies for their help during the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

Kasich did not directly call for assassination of North Korean leaders, but suggested that targeted action against the leadership in Pyongyang is going to be more efficient than bombing the country to deter it from launching nuclear missiles. Those waiting with bated breath will have to wait a bit longer.

Kasich added, "And I think he's toned down Twitter, which I think is good". I spoke with Governor Kasich about the book and about the political environment today.

GREENE: Donald Trump, of course, survived and won the nomination and then the presidency.

"These things are created to get votes, and it needs to start from ground zero", he said. "You have to do things very quickly, and I think that is not beyond our capability to achieve that". Notice all that promise? You can't just say to them - well, you're stuck - or we turn our back on them.

Kasich was in Washington as part of an East Coast trip to promote his new book, "Two Paths: America Divided or United".

He also encouraged unity, bemoaning the wide political divide in the United States.

Kasich stopped short of explicitly recommending that USA forces assassinate North Korea's leaders, but what he described would be a military and intelligence exercise.

"Moving big warships in and having a war, I don't think that's going to work", he said. "Difficulties can not be solved unless we have deliberate and steady solutions to the problem".

When asked about future presidential plans, Kasich told reporters he feels a connection to the people of NH, but any talk of another run, or any republican challenging President Trump premature. I mean, I lived in a community where people struggled, but you can give them a sense of hope. We'll see how it runs out.

Asked by the Union Leader to give a grade to President Trump's first 100 days in office, he replied, "Incomplete". "That sent an important message to the world that we're not going away".

Why is he getting the question more?

GREENE: Yeah, you do say this is not a crisis of leadership so much as a crisis of followship (ph). Governor Kasich was the last candidate to drop out of the primaries.

Challenges to White House incumbents aren't as rare as people think.

"I've got a feeling I'm going to be coming back here a lot because I made some real friends here", the OH governor told reporters after delivering a speech about his new book and answering questions at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.

A University of Virginia Center for Politics poll of Trump voters released Thursday shows his approval rating at 93 percent with his base.

"The great thing about New Hampshire is that they're informed". It looks like he's playing the "sitting-and-waiting game".

After his remarks, Kasich told reporters that he had a feeling he would be coming back a lot to the Granite State because of many friends made here.
