Kejriwal afraid of defeat, says BJP MP Maheish Girri

At the end of voting, state election commissioner S.K. Srivastava was quoted as saying that the "entire electoral exercise passed off peacefully".

However, the polling remained peaceful as the election commission ensured elaborate security arrangements with over 56,000 officials of the Delhi Police and the Central Para Military Forces standing guard at 13,022 polling booths.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has told his party to prepare for an agitation if the BJP indeed sweeps the Delhi municipal polls as the exit polls have predicted.

Member of the BJP's legal team Neeraj, who submitted the complaint on behalf of the party, said he was "feeling apprehended" after watching the video. After a series of losses in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other states, the party is expected to get less than 30 wards, as per the Aaj Tak exit poll. While the ABP exit poll survey gives predicted a total of 218 seats for BJP, AAP has been given 24 and Congress 22.

Amidst doubts raised over working of EVMs by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi saw almost 48.6 per cent polling to elect new corporators for the 272-seat Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was trifurcated in 2012 into the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

Election was cancelled in Maujpur in the east and Sarai Pipal Thala in the north because of the death of a candidate in each of the two wards.

Lakhs of men and women on Sunday voted to pick three new municipal corporations in an election crucial for all three main contenders - the BJP, Congress and the AAP. Delhi BJP secretary, Sanjeev Sharma however expressed confidence over BJP's victory in the MCD polls.

Polling to elect Delhi's municipal councillors ended at 5.30 PM in Delhi on Sunday.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal were among the first to cast their votes.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who cast her vote in Nizamuddin, asked the voters to think about the development work done by the previous Congress governments.

There were also complaints of faulty EVMs in North Delhi Burari area, South West Delhi's Kapashera and GTB ward.

The Congress leaders expressed hope that the voters of Delhi will remember their "track record" of governance and help the party in winning the MCD polls for which voting took place today. The Aam Aadmi Party had been demanding that the elections be postponed till Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail fitted EVMs were made available.

The voting was for 272 wards under MCD and had begun at 8 am on Tuesday.
