Star Wars: Episode IX release date revealed

The news comes via Variety without any details or fanfare.

Disney and Lucasfilm have booked a date in theatres for Colin Trevorrow's "Star Wars: Episode IX" - May 24, 2019. "Episode IX" will follow on May 24, 2019.

It breaks with the recent tradition of releasing Star Wars movies in December, the most recent one being prequel Rogue One.

Disney had staked out December for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and the upcoming "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", but now returns to the summer, where every other previous installment had bowed.

E Online has reported that Lucasfilm will bring the long-awaited Indiana Jones 5 (working title) will hit theaters on July 10, 2020.

It'll be the first main trilogy Star Wars film to debut at that time of year, which marks the beginning of the America's summer box office season.

"Frozen 2" will hit theaters on November 27 2019.

"Episode IX" completes the trilogy that began after Disney bought George Lucas's Lucasfilm in a $4 billion deal in 2012.

Leia and Han Solo are not expected to appear in "Episode IX", but Harrison Ford fans will get their fix in a now untitled fifth "Indiana Jones" movie on July 10, 2020. However, Gigantic, which was originally set to arrive in November 2018, will now open on November 25, 2020.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" arrives in theaters December 15. Disney's upcoming untitled Han Solo film is also expected to have a May release date.

Jon Favreau's live-action Lion King musical will be out 19 July 2019.

And as we would have hoped, the beloved Princess Leia will appear in the ninth installment of the Star Wars franchise-without the use of CGI, which was reported earlier this month.
