Ryan Seacrest replaces Michael Strahan as Kelly Ripa's new 'Live' co-host

After months of speculation and a carousal of hosts filling in, Kelly Ripa has finally chosen and revealed who her new Live with Kelly co-host is.

TV provider listings had been advertising Chris Pratt for Monday's episode, but the official "LIVE" website no longer confirms any interview guests.

Veteran broadcaster and former "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest will join "Live" as Kelly Ripa's new co-host, CNN is reporting. Ryan has also spent time as a co-host with Kelly in the past year before accepting the full time gig.

But Megyn Kelly's hiring at NBC News might have pressured Ripa and ABC to make a decision sooner.

Ripa told People a year ago that finding the right co-host is like a "puzzle" and that she always meant to find a "partner". Instead, Ripa and Seacrest will be competing with Kelly.

Seacrest is based in Los Angeles, but "Live" is shot in NY. Ryan now lives in Los Angeles, but also has a home in Manhattan, and will be moving to NY. While it is the second most watched daytime syndicated talk show, after Dr. Phil, viewership dropped 18% this past season to an average of 3.2 million viewers, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Ripa teased the May 1 announcement on Twitter, and Monday was not only the day the news first came out, and the day it was confirmed, but Seacrest's first appearance on the show.

The hosting deal may open the door for further business deals with ABC's parent company, Disney.

Ripa was reportedly blindsided by the news with Strahan only telling her half an hour before the news leaked in the press. In anticipation of the news, she told fans, "Tune in tomorrow, trust me".

During that time other guest hosts have included Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, Jerry O'Connell and Fred Savage, however, Seacrest is the one that producers have made a decision to go with.

She hinted at the news in an Instagram post on Sunday, where she displayed a mug with a question mark on it and wrote, "We're going to need a bigger mug".

"Today, the next chapter of the Live story is about to be written", Ripa told viewers before Seacrest took the stage.
