Wisconsin Schools Could See Less Medicaid Funding Under AHCA

However, it is long past time to go beyond the ACA and support enactment of a health plan that covers all Americans - improved Medicare for all.

A big milestone yesterday as the House passes its Obamacare replacement, the American Health Care Act.

John S. Williams, an attorney in New Orleans whose multiple sclerosis medication costs $70,000 a year, buys insurance through the Affordable Care Act's marketplace. Public health will be adversely affected. Even more people will become ill. States could waive the mandate that insurers must offer policies to people with prior health problems and cannot charge them exorbitant rates. Many Iowans will soon have no insurance options. It will one day.

It was Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio who removed the hook that the insurance companies had into us to force you to pay for their losses. Pestilences do not discriminate among the wealthy, the middle class and the poor.

Though the GOP healthcare bill that just passed the House is hardly a done deal, analysts have no shortage of predictions about what the legislation would mean for the health insurance industry.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Medicaid, while the bill's reforms to this atrociously malfunctioning program are very praiseworthy, repealing ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion without leaving current beneficiaries with a good alternative is very much not. It actually brought together the slightly right of moderate, the far-right and the alt-right.

Top elected Democrats are taking their opposition to the ObamaCare overhaul plan passed by House Republican to the extreme - arguing Americans will "die" as a result of the changes. Well, they have now bought and paid for that title.

No one knows when the Senate will produce a bill, though some think senators may be able to do so by July 4.

Specifically, Republicans' majority in the Senate is slimmer than it is in the House, and many Republican Senators from states that expanded Medicaid object to changes to Medicaid funding.

A picture of Rep. Mimi Walters, R-Calif., taking a selfie at Trump's Thursday Rose Garden celebration to cheer House passage of the GOP bill quickly made its way into a fundraising appeal from one of her Democratic challengers, Kia Hamadanchy - with the subject line, "I am appalled". What criteria will be used to determine what is and what isn't pre-existing?

The bill would shift power to states to set some health insurance rules, slash Medicaid spending by more than $800 billion and cut almost $600 billion in taxes under the health-care law, most of which will benefit the wealthiest Americans.

A Quinnipiac University survey in March found that American voters overwhelmingly disapproved of an earlier version of the House health-care plan by 56 percent to 17 percent. Mick Mulvaney, Trump's budget director, said the House bill is unlikely to be the version that ultimately clears the Senate and ends up in front of the president.

"Many people with pre-existing conditions will have a hard time maintaining coverage because it just won't be affordable", said Larry Levitt, a health insurance expert with the Kaiser Family Foundation, which studies health care issues.

There is no effort to include Democrats in the process as Republicans are intent on ramming any legislation through on a simple majority vote.

Jimmy Kimmel's emotional request could be understood as a concerned parent to some extent, but to use it to bring attention to what is already apparent is abhorrent. The government shutdown in 2013 may be an extreme example, but it shows that these tactics are a political disaster, which makes it surprising that Republicans were so cowed by such a threat.

"They are talking about slashing $800 billion, Chris, from Medicaid coverage".

Now Republicans promise that, under their plan, insurance companies can not deny coverage to anyone.

Kimmel's son is doing well but this playing to the audience was uncalled for.

Based on TrumpCare's complete failure to address women's health needs, it should not come as a surprise that only 13 percent of women support the proposed health care repeal.
