Amid Escalating Tensions, North Korea Accuses CIA of Assassination Plot

"A disgusting terrorists' group, which the Central Intelligence Agency and the IS infiltrated into the DPRK on the basis of covert and meticulous preparations to commit state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership of the DPRK by use of the bio-chemical substance, has been recently detected", the statement goes on.

North Korea accused the CIA and South Korea's intelligence service of attempting to assassinate its leader, Kim Jong-Un, with a bio-chemical weapon.

Both Malaysia and South Korea have blamed the North for the assassination, which retorts that the accusations are an attempt to smear it.

Although the North Korean suspect was not named in the official televised broadcast, he was identified by his surname - Kim.

It's only the latest in a string of odd, as-yet-unproven accusations over the years that a proud, highly sensitive North Korea has levelled at its US and South Korean rivals. The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to impose new sanctions on North Korea.

Allegedly, the Central Intelligence Agency gave Kim the lumberjack "over $20,000 on two occasions and a satellite transmitter-receiver" for the job.

The allegation itself is impossible to verify, but the statement gave lengthy details about the alleged plot.

Melilla's Interior Ministry said most of the migrants were pushed back by Spanish and Moroccan police, but about 100 managed to enter the city.

Calling the US and South Korean intelligence services a "hotbed of evils in the world", the report accused the agencies of having "hatched a vicious plot to hurt the supreme leadership of the DPRK".

"By relentlessly bringing in a number of strategic nuclear assets to the Korean peninsula, the gravely threatening the peace and safety and driving the situation to the brink of a nuclear war", North Korean officials said in a statement in April, according to KCNA.

The North Korean envoy asked his South Korean counterpart in detail about the culture and lives of those in South Korea.

The US has sent a warship to the region and installed a controversial anti-missile defence system in South Korea.

Pyongyang has accused the United States and South Korea in the past of plots to assassinate its leadership.

North Korea warned this week that USA hostility had brought the region to the brink of nuclear war.

The airport attack, blamed by the United States and Seoul on North Korean agents, has been cited by Washington in its efforts to persuade countries to minimize ties with North Korea.

North Korea late last week issued a rare direct criticism of China saying its "reckless remarks" on the nuclear program are testing its patience and could trigger unspecified "grave" consequences. Pyongyang, which says it needs nuclear weapons to defend itself against invasion, has carried out a series of missile launches and threatened a sixth atomic test, while the administration of new US President Donald Trump has said that military action was an "option on the table" - raising fears of a spiralling conflict.
