EA Still Has High Expectations for Mass Effect: Andromeda, Despite Mixed Reviews

"We're very pleased with the progress of our new action IP from BioWare", Wilson said.

The new Mass Effect Andromeda patch was confirmed by the studio yesterday, revealing that more of the game's lingering problems are set to be tackled.

Apparently the developer's newest game, which has been tentatively slated for release in March of next year, is being kicked back to the following fiscal year.

EA's fiscal year begins in April, so it looks like we'll need to wait until at least April 2018.

It was announced that BioWare's upcoming original action IP could be delayed until March 2019, and EA CEO Andrew Wilson also addressed the elephant in the room, namely, the extremely mixed reaction to Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The game has been described as an "action-adventure" title with "RPG-style progression" and will be a live service game, although it is not an RPG. "[Overall we're] very happy with how BioWare is treating Mass Effect". In the coming year, Wilson stated that EA are "focused on innovating for [its] players with extraordinary new experiences across [its] portfolio, continuing to grow [its] global network, and extending [its] reach across new platforms and more ways to play". No games in the series beyond Andromeda have been announced, though a movie is in the works. Innovation in games is important more now than ever, and as a leader in the industry, we see it as our responsibility to innovate.

Early reports of BioWare's new IP, codenamed Dylan, say that it takes elements from games like Destiny and The Division in order to compete within the growing MMO-lite market.

BioWare is working on something big, though what it is, they aren't saying yet.
