White House: Yates was a 'political opponent of president'

Sally Yates contradicted the Trump administration on warnings about Michael Flynn’s contacts with the RussiaMore

Democrats quizzed former Obama administration officials on Russian Federation, how former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn had been "compromised" and how the White House officials conducted themselves when confronted with the information.

Yates testified that she was concerned the Russians could use the discrepancy to blackmail Flynn.

Flynn was sacked by President Trump on February 13, just 24 days into his tenure. "To state the obvious, you don't want your national security adviser compromised by the Russians".

"The committee is drawing no conclusions at this time, and will continue follow the facts where they lead", GOP Sen.

You may remember Trump was once positively gleeful about the FBI's investigation of Clinton, basking in "lock her up" chants at campaign stops across the country past year.

Yates' view that Trump's order was unlawful and inconsistent with the principles of the Justice Department ultimately was upheld by three federal courts that blocked its enforcement; the Trump administration eventually withdrew it and replaced it with a more carefully drawn order that nevertheless also has been blocked by the federal courts.

Labor to announce $1.9b tax crackdown on lawyers, accountants
Labor seized on the more than $15 billion, one-year rise, in the cost of the tax cut in Parliament and hammered the government. For a worker earning $50,000 annually, it'll be an extra $250 per year. "For someone on $80,000, it's an extra $400", he said.

"We felt like it was critical that we get this information to the White House, in part because the vice president was unknowingly making false statements to the public and because we believed that Gen. Flynn was compromised with respect to the Russians", Yates said.

Yates inadvertently became a hero to progressives for refusing to defend President Trump's travel ban in court, and later emerged as a key figure in the ongoing controversy surrounding Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

At McGahn's request, Yates returned on January 27 for further discussion. In January American intelligence agencies found Russian Federation had hacked American political party emails and launched a misinformation campaign to sway the election. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the details of the committee's investigation. His aides are engaging in real-time political combat with Trump, including revealing Monday that Obama personally warned his successor against tapping embattled Michael Flynn as his national security adviser.

Yates' warning about Flynn capped weeks of concern among top Obama officials, former officials told the AP.

It was like two different hearings in one.

But Sen. Richard Blumenthal of CT deliberately raised the question of Flynn's possible guilt in an exchange with Yates.
