Chelsea one 'little step' from title, says Conte

Conte believes Chelsea overcame their greatest challenge when defeat at Jose Mourinho's Manchester United last month cut their lead to four points over Spurs, who the Blues then beat in the FA Cup semi-final. His precise passing set the Blues on their way to creating an opportunity to win the league on Friday at West Brom.

Nemanja Matic then produced a second-half strike to rule out any remote chance of a shock comeback to preserve Boro's Premier League status for at least another weekend.

A "buzzing" Chelsea head to The Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion on Friday knowing victory will deliver the championship in coach Antonio Conte's first season in charge.

"We started the season not in the right way, with a lot of problems, but only through hard work did we find the right solutions and the right way".

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois reckons winning the Premier League title with Chelsea this season will be all the sweeter after their struggles last term.

Having now lined out for Genk, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and racking up an impressive 48 appearances for Belgium, the Stamford Bridge no.1 has played in a huge number of games despite his tender years.

"We've been working very hard, a lot of running and tactics, but we have to be realistic".

"This year it will be even more special, even more nice because last year was very bad".

Antonio Conte has revealed he ranks the Premier League title as another "big step" in his football career.

In many ways there is something very similar about this current Chelsea team to that one back in 2005.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona player recently went second in the all-time Premier League assist charts, passing Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard, but was informed in a post-match interview that one of his assists did not count.

After the match, the Spaniard said that he was advised to leave Chelsea after struggling to establish himself under manager Antonio Conte but that he chose to stay and prove he could meet the manager's demands.

"We are very close, but we need another step to become champions of the Premier League, which would be a fantastic achievement for us".

The Italian added: "We have our idea of football and we must continue to play always in this way, to attack - but at the same time to have good balance".

"My message is now we need to take another step".
