North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited two military units near the maritime border with the South on its western coast, according to state media on Friday.

In retaliation, North Korea is undertaking "counterterrorism measures of justice", a spokesman for North Korea intelligence said, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

A statement by the North Korean Ministry of State Security said that Pyongyang would find and "mercilessly destroy" the terrorists.

"China will not allow its northeastern region to be contaminated by North Korea's nuclear activities", the Global Times declared. North Korea regularly makes allegations about the West.

This comes as tensions between Pyongyang and the administration of President Donald Trump escalates over United States military build-up on the Korean Peninsula and the North's carrying out nuclear and missile tests.

North Korea has accused the USA and South Korea of attempting to assassinate leader Kim Jong Un with a "bio-chemical substance".

"There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea", President Donald Trump told Reuters in April.

For the Central Intelligence Agency "assassination by use of biochemical substances including radioactive substance and nano poisonous substance is the best method that does not require access to the target, their lethal results will appear after six or twelve months", the Ministry of Security said, AFP reported. North Korea said a terrorist group helped coordinate the plot.

Pyongyang presented extensive details but offered no concrete proof to back its accusations of the plot, which it said could never have succeeded.

North Korea has continued on with its missile tests despite condemnation from the worldwide community and threats from the USA and its allies.

A Central Intelligence Agency supported terrorist group is planning a biochemical attack to kill Kim Jong-un, Pyongyang has claimed.

Although China has publicly distanced itself from Pyongyang and insists it has halted coal imports, some experts believe the two countries are still trading through the "livelihood purposes" clause that allows trade to ensure the survival of the North Korean people. North Korea has been headstrong in its response, launching four failed missile tests since March.

There have so far been no comments from either the US or the South Korean side.

Kim has continued North Korea's nuclear weapons program in spite of global pressure to shut it down.

Analysts say such an assassination operation would be extremely hard to plan and carry out given the massive security around the supreme leader.

During the interview, Trump also spoke of the man at the center stage of all this, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

China, North Korea's largest trading partner and main benefactor, has been urging the North to stop nuclear and missile activities amid United States pressure to use its leverage to resolve the nuclear stand-off.
