Rumor: Don't expect to see a new Mass Effect for a while

BioWare will be putting the "Mass Effect" series on ice as its Montreal studio works on other projects.

Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, announced during an investor call for the end of the company's 2017 fiscal year that Bioware's newest title is delayed to fiscal year 2019. For instance, just last month it was revealed that a handful of former Montreal employees had made the transition over to EA Motive to assist in the development of Star Wars Battlefront II.

It seems the new game is now the focus of all BioWare's studios around the world, with the main studio in Edmonton leading development and the Austin studio also helping out.

Moreover, the studio has now taken a supporting role for other studios to help develop a new IP, codenamed "Dylan".

Kotaku is reporting that Mass Effect series has been put on hold as EA restructures the team at BioWare Montreal.

The delay isn't a response to criticism of BioWare's latest, Mass Effect: Andromeda, EA also confirmed. While there are things to enjoy about it, they're few and far between - your time is much better served replaying the original trilogy or exploring the widely available mods out there.

"We found current damage levels significantly slowed the pace of games on Gold and Silver difficulties", it added. Mass Effect has always had to deal with nitpicky fans and the spotlight that comes with being a prestige franchise in modern gaming, but it's also generally had the games to back it up. The latest patch is said to address numerous shooter game's latest issues, including the issues on multiplayer and the opening cinematics. According to DualShockers, EA is "very happy" with the developer, saying Andromeda is representative of BioWare's "wonderful, beautiful, deep and rich worlds, incredible combat and unbelievable fast-paced multiplayer". "BioWare has continued to support Mass Effect, and the new team is doing some incredible things, and you'll hear more about that in the months to come".

That doesn't mean there will never be another Mass Effect game, of course. While there is no ETA for this new patch for the game, it is going to drop tomorrow so stay tuned to find out more about it soon.
