Amazon Sprints Ahead In The Voice-Enabled Speaker Market

You can also stream Amazon Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio or TuneIn radio to the Echo using your voice.

Echo Show, the latest device in Amazon's line of Echo devices, has been revealed.

Amazon has dominated the category of connected speakers since 2014 when it introduced its first Echo, which responds to voice commands and allows users to order goods or rides and control connected appliances.

The Echo Show is set to hit the USA on 28 June and will set back buyers by $229 (£176), but there is no word on when the Echo Show will reach United Kingdom shores.

A strong start for preorders would likely come as a relief for the online retail giant, especially after recent reports of a lukewarm reception for Amazon's other new Alexa gadget, the $200 Amazon Echo Look camera.

Does the Echo Show look like the best option yet? The Echo Show's USA price converts to about £180. In the video, we also see the Amazon Echo Show on a video call with a woman using an iPhone. The cylindrical speaker uses your Wi-Fi network to connect to the Internet and tap into Amazon's universe of services.

Alternatively, people trying to avoid communication can simply tell the Alexa to ignore an incoming call. Furthermore, it will also be found on the Alexa apps for Android and iOS in an upcoming update.

For news and information you can see and hear, just ask Alexa for your video flash briefing from CNN, Bloomberg, and more. There is no invitation needed and you don't need Amazon Prime or any existing Echo device to buy it.

The device will include capabilities that tie into the Internet of Things, although these functions will require smart-home devices that are compatible with Amazon. What's more, the Alexa devices in question should be those made by Amazon, so third-party devices that have the smart assistant integrated into them can't use the feature. It offers a way to make and receive calls that you can operate with only your voice.

Meanwhile, calling and messaging will of course make Amazon's devices all the more useful.

One feature that's sure to attract some attention is video calling.

The Show is Amazon's fourth major Echo-branded device. The Echo Show comes with a price tag of $230 (roughly Rs. 14,900).
