Jardim's men needed a draw to secure the title, but goals from Mbappe and Germain secured the title for them.

For the first time in five seasons, someone besides Paris Saint-Germain has lifted the Ligue 1 trophy; Monaco have set a new precedent in France and have proven that the right style of play, combined with the right balance of youth and experienced players, can achieve greatness.

Valere Germain put the seal on the win with the last kick of the game to really get the party started.

And the reigning Monarch of Monaco told Canal+: "After an extraordinary season, this final victory at home is the culmination of many things".

"This year we've been uncompromising".

"This group is extraordinary, talented and very good-spirited, led by a great coach".

Monaco wins 1st French league title in 17 years

Not since Claude Puel guided a squad featuring Fabien Barthez, David Trezeguet and Willy Sagnol to the 1999-2000 title had Monaco been crowned kings of France. His Monaco comeback this season heralded a remarkable return to form, however, Falcao netting 21 in 29 league outings to remind everyone of the devastating ability previously showcased at Porto and Atletico Madrid. In games immediately following Champions League action in the competition proper, Jardim's side have a flawless 12 from 12 record, including scorelines reading 7-0, 6-2 and 6-0.

Mbappe had made just 11 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring just once, before the 2016/17 season but has enjoyed a rocket-propelled rise in the 12 months since. But the best thing came up with this title.

"It's my biggest achievement".

The forward will finish top scorer for Monaco this campaign, netting 24 times with four assists.

"Paris winning it has been a habit".

Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev insisted the club would hold on to star names including Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar. "There will necessarily be some departures".
