Spurs beat Man United to finish 2nd in Premier League

Jose Mourinho, Manager of Manchester United reacts during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at White Hart Lane on May 14, 2017 in London, England.

Tottenham are guaranteed second place in the Premier League - their highest finish in the history of the competition - and will participate in the group stages of next season's Champions League.

"What a way to finish".

THERE was no time wasting at White Hart Lane yesterday as demolition crews set to work less than 24 hours after Tottenham played their last game there.

"To score the victor, to win the game and finish unbeaten here is something special", Kane told the club's official website. "I want to congratulate all, and to say "thank-you" again to all the players, the fans, the staff, my staff, because all together we worked so hard to try to achieve all that we achieved this season".

This season is the first time that Tottenham have gone through an entire league campaign unbeaten at home since 1964-65. It is the last Spurs match at the old stadium, a new stadium is being built on the site.

Tottenham will play at Wembley next season as work continues on their new 62,000-seat stadium next to the old ground.

All of that, said Pochettino, contributed to this day being the one that he'll remember the most from his three years at White Hart Lane. I am not too anxious, I don't think the players are too anxious. We wanted a win so badly in our last game here.

Manchester United, on the other hand, now find a top four place out of reach, with success in the Europa League final against Ajax their only chance of booking a place in next season's Champions League. Nobody can play two big competitions with 15 players and this is what we have at the time.

Pochettino believes that finishing second and the new stadium coming will give them the platform to push on even further. he said: "We believe that when the new stadium opens it's doors it will help the cub to achieve the last level".

"I am not upset because we had to make that decision", he said.

"It is sad to see White Hart Lane go, it has been an fantastic stadium for us - especially this season, finishing unbeaten", Kane said.
