AUSTRALIA men's coach Andy Friend has made two changes to his squad for this weekend's London Sevens at Twickenham - the final tournament of the 2016-17 world series.

Dan Norton is chasing USA's Perry Baker for the series top try scorer and he narrowed the lead by scoring two against an Australian side that were much improved since Paris.

England started strong in front of a raucous crowd full of energy at Twickenham, as they recorded a comfortable 28-7 win over Spain in their first game, where Dan Norton scored his 50th try of the campaign.

The Olympic gold medallists from Rio bounced back, thrashing Japan 61-5, but a 27-21 loss to rivals New Zealand saw them miss out on a quarterfinal spot for the first time this season.

The action on Sunday begins at 9.30am BST with England taking on South Africa at 11.42am.

Wayne Rooney sends message to Jose Mourinho: I want to do this
Jose Mourinho's side have yet to win a game away to their direct rivals, and have yet to even score a goal against them. Sunday's win ended the hoodoo and earned Arsenal only their 13th league win in 50 outings against the Red Devils.

The other quarter-finals will see New Zealand play Scotland, the U.S. take on Australia and Argentina face Canada.

With the scores level at 12-12, the English broke Blitzbok hearts in the final play of the game as they surged upfield and out-flanked the South African defence, with Norton sliding in at the left-hand corner.

U.S. made up for their earlier loss with a 47-0 demolition of Kenya in their second match of the day, but the highlight of the pool was undoubtedly the battle of South Africa and Wales, which went down to the wire on the Twickenham turf.

Nelson Oyoo ran in a try to keep Kenya's hopes alive but with the conversion going astray the Blitzbokke held out for a close-shave 12-10 win.
.

England's other try came from James Rodwell. Andrew Durutalo's handoff and try ended the match, leaving it 24-12 to USA.

Spain got on the board with two minutes remaining with Igor Genua crossing but it was too little, too late as England sealed victory.
