Flynn, not so eager to talk these days, rejects Senate Intelligence subpoena

"Michael Flynn has not cooperated with the committee up to this point".

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn is reportedly refusing to comply with the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation of potential ties between Russian Federation and Donald Trump's campaign.

Flynn, among others, is a primary focus of three simultaneous USA investigations into the matter.

Republican Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina had to retract a statement made hours earlier that Flynn's lawyer had told the committee he would not comply with the subpoena.

Burr's initial announcement prompted many folks on Twitter to say the move meant that Flynn could end up in jail: contempt of Congress! Flynn was sacked from his position as Trump's national security adviser in February.

This news after reports Friday in the New York Times and the Washington Post about the fallout from Trump's firing of Comey, as well as the inquiry into Russia's role in the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Burr corrected himself by issuing a written statement saying Flynn's attorneys "have not yet indicated their intentions" regarding the subpoena.

According to Politico, however, Burr later said that his comments may have been "premature" and that Flynn still had time to respond to the subpoena. Flynn resigned as President Donald Trump's national security adviser on February 13, 2017.

Congressional aides said negotiations with Flynn's lawyer continue, Reuters reported.

President Donald Trump is assailing the naming of a special counsel as "the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" The memo focused on Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, particularly the FBI director's decision to divulge details to the public at various junctures during her presidential campaign against Trump.

But he told reporters Thursday in Cyprus that he doesn't understand what the "secret" was, since the US introduced a ban on laptops on airlines from some Middle Eastern countries two months ago. In March, the committee rejected Flynn's request for immunity from prosecution.

The Washington Post is reporting that a current senior White House adviser is under scrutiny as part of an investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. As for the separate report of a "person of interest" under investigation, the Post said the senior White House adviser "under scrutiny" is someone close to the president but did not name the person. Congressional Republicans did the former during the Obama administration when attorney general Eric Holder and the IRS' Lois Lerner refused to comply with issued subpoenas.

Trump met with the Russians on May 10, the day after he fired Comey.

President Donald Trump is denying that his campaign collaborated with Russian Federation or that he tried to kill an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of the issue.
