Saudi King Presents Trump With Top Civilian Honor Also Held by Putin

Trump's stop in an enthusiastic Saudi capital is the first in a nine-day, five-country swing across the Middle East and Europe.

The president's stop in Saudi Arabia kicks off an ambitious global debut.

Saudi Arabian King Salman, 81, greeted Trump at the base of the stairs, extending his hand toward the US president. "We have enuf enemies", Trump tweeted at the time, including a short-hand spelling for "enough".

President Donald Trump and Saudi King Salman signed a series of joint vision agreement at the Saudi Royal Court today. The distinction also was bestowed upon Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

The centerpiece of Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia will be a speech Sunday at the Arab-Islamic-American summit.

The president's daughter, Ivanka Trump - who is more widely known in the kingdom as a style icon and businesswoman - wore a calf-length black, white and maroon floral dress.

Salman said on Twitter, "We welcome @POTUS Trump to KSA".

The first lady wore a black pantsuit with a golden belt but did not cover her head, consistent with custom for female foreign dignitaries visiting Saudi Arabia. The Washington Post also noted that Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonMelania and Ivanka Trump choose not to wear headscarves on Saudi Arabia trip Still anxious about Hillary's emails? First Lady Michelle Obama followed that practice when accompanying her husband to King Abdullah's funeral in 2015. The king did not greet Obama at the airport as he did Saturday with Trump.

On Saturday, however, none of the women in Trump's delegation covered their hair, and there appeared to be little consternation from the large delegation of Saudi men who greeted them at the airport. The first lady is joining the president for the entire trip.

Trump has fueled the Russian Federation controversy by firing the man who was originally leading the Russian Federation probe, FBI Director James Comey, in an apparent bid to stop the investigation. Trump is also accused of revealing high classified intelligence to Russian officials last week during an Oval Office meeting.

Saturday marked a mostly ceremonial beginning to Trump's first foreign trip, during which he's also expected to visit Israel, Rome, Brussels, and Sicily.

That hasn't dampened expectations for Trump's arrival in the Arab Gulf, however. He later was given a tour of one of Riyadh's most opulent palaces and sat through an elaborate signing ceremony in which, one by one, the Saudis agreed to military deals with the US government and private businesses. Billboards featuring the image of Trump and the king dotted the highways of Riyadh and lights bathed Trump's luxury hotel in red, white and blue lights and, at times, an image of the president's face. He was joined by First Lady Melania Trump. He's slept only at the White House, his Mar-a-Lago resort and his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, since January. He's also hoping to move past the controversies engulfing his administration. Trump arrived as Iran's President Hassan Rouhani won re-election by a wide margin, giving the moderate cleric a second, four-year term to continue pushing for greater freedoms and outreach to the wider world. While Trump campaigned as a strident opponent of the nuclear deal, his administration is still reviewing whether or not to scrap the accord. He also told them that firing Comey had "taken off" the "great pressure" he was feeling from the investigation, the Times reported.

Human Rights Watch urged Trump not to accept the arms deal after aSaudi-led coalition, militarily supported by the United States, in Yemen has led to "serious violations of the laws of war".

The arms sale agreement was just one of a series of deals to be announced during the visit, with U.S. conglomerate General Electric saying it had also signed agreements and memorandums of understanding worth $15 billion. The package includes tanks, combat ships, missile defense systems, radar and communications and cybersecurity technology.

Mr Trump was joined on the trip by the chief executives of several major USA companies, which announced their own agreements with the Saudis. The draft also notably did not contain the words "radical Islamic terror", a phrase Trump repeatedly criticized Hillary Clinton for not using during last year's campaign.

Trump's spokesman Sean Spicer said the President edited the speech with his aides during the 14-hour journey from Washington.
