Donald Trump acknowledges India as 'victim of terrorism' at Riyadh summit

In his speech at Rivlin's official residence, Trump said he was deeply encouraged by his conversations with Muslim world leaders in Saudi Arabia.

Trump's speech at an Arab-Islamic-American summit in the Saudi capital Riyadh marked a dramatic departure from his rhetoric toward Muslims during the presidential campaign.

United States President Donald Trump acknowledged that India was a victim of terrorism.

On Iran's influence, Trump said: "The government that gives terrorists safe harbour, financial backing".

"Drive them out! Drive them out of your places of worship". Drive them out of your communities. "Muslim nations must be willing to take on the burden if we are going to defeat terrorism and send its wicked ideology into oblivion".

In a veiled reference to Pakistan, Donald Trump said, "every country must ensure that terrorists don't find any sanctuary on their lands".

White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller, who is reportedly the speech writer for US President Donald Trump's address to the Arabic Islamic American Summit.

President Trump along with various leaders hold an illuminated globe, marking the start of the forum. In his Saudi speech, Trump condemned "Islamic extremism", "Islamists", and "Islamic terror", but not once uttered the precise phrase he pressed Obama on.

Trump on Saturday attended a signing ceremony Saturday to cement a number of defense and business deals between the USA and Saudi Arabia that U.S. and Saudi officials said were "in excess of $380 billion". But now his audience had a choice between good and evil.

During the brief meeting, Trump said that he was very pleased to meet PM Nawaz to which the premier responded that the feeling is mutual. He praised the six-state Gulf Cooperation Council, specifically Saudi Arabia, for "blocking funders from using their countries as a financial base for terror, and for designating Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation, which they certainly are, this year".

He said USA has been a victim of terrorism, from 11 September to the Boston bombings and the Orlando attack.

The speech was a change in tone for Mr Trump who, in an interview previous year, famously said: "I think Islam hates us".

Trump talked about "principled realism", seemingly referencing the strong interventionist policy of the previous Republican administration, which he criticized during his campaign.

The America-first president called on Muslim leaders there to eliminate what he calls the "foot soldiers of evil".

The militant group Hamas is Israel's enemy. On the Palestinian issue, Trump underlined, in conclusion, that peace in this world is possible, including peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

Saudi Arabia and the USA also signed agreements worth 280 billion dollars, and vowed to work together to counter "common enemies". They represent primarily Sunni states friendly to Saudi Arabia.
