South Korean Kim Si-woo has rallied to capture The Players Championship, one of the biggest tournaments on the PGA Tour. After a 72 in the second round, Kim had one of the better showings on a wind-blown Saturday afternoon with a 68, putting him two shots behind Holmes and Stanley.

In doing so, the 21-year-old became the youngest victor of event, breaking the mark previously held by Adam Scott, who won the championship as a 23-year-old in 2004.

And it wasn't just that hole. He stuffed his tee shot to 5 feet on the par-3 17th for birdie, and after hooking his tee shot into the water on the 18th, he rolled in a long putt from off the 18th green for par. 1, 7 and 9, then refusing to blink or buckle under the back-nine pressure of the Stadium Course that has sometimes caused majors champions and double-digit winners to wilt.

Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters in 2013, and he has been a consistent presence in the top 15 of the world rankings over the past decade. He finished at 10-under 278 for his second PGA Tour win, three shots better than Ian Poulter (71) and Louis Oosthuizen (73). "He took advantage of it, and you can see how good of a player he is". "Never once did he look flustered at all".

With the victory, Kim emulates Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Jordan Spieth in becoming only the fourth player to wih a PGA tour event twice before the age of 22.

It wasn't a dream, even though he played so flawlessly and with so little suspense that he could easily have put everyone else to sleep.

Relieved, reenergized and refocused, Poulter made the most of it at THE PLAYERS, a tournament he didn't even think he was going to get into a month ago.

The excitement, good and bad, came from everyone else.

The Army chief's "Commendation Card" is considered a prestigious award and is given for distinguished services and devotion to duty.

Poulter sure did his part.

It offers exemptions to athletes who win a medal of any colour at the Olympics or gold at the Asian Games but unfortunately for Kim, winning the PGA Tour's flagship event does not bring an exemption. He took a penalty drop, then hit wedge over the trees and almost holed it, tapping in for bogey. Instead, he tapped in for bogey. However, due to tour rules he could not play until he turned 18. He never reached those heights, but he has been an underrated, under-appreciated player throughout his career.

"I felt good coming down the last few holes".

Oosthuizen held the outright lead after he birdied the second and Stanley and Holmes - who slumped to a closing 84 which included an eight on the 17th - both bogeyed the first. He started Sunday in a tie for first.

Kim, at 21-years-old, becomes the youngest victor here in Ponte Vedra, Florida. If you can do that around this golf course, you can outscore everyone. "And that's exactly what he's done".

South Korean Kim Si-woo became the youngest victor of The Players Championship on Sunday when he shot a final round three-under-par 69 to clinch a three-stroke victory at the TPC Stadium course in Ponte Vedra.

Kim kept a clean card to the end for a 3-under 69 to become the youngest champion in the 44-year history of the biggest tournament this side of the majors.
