No Indication US Ready to Apologize for Revealing Israel Intel to Russians

President Donald Trump placed a note in the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Monday, becoming the first sitting USA president to visit one of Judaism's holiest sites.

"May your first trip to our region prove to be a historic milestone on the path towards reconciliation and peace", Netanyahu said, later praising Trump for his "reassertion of American leadership in the Middle East".

"The wall is part of Jerusalem", he said, declaring an undeniable fact accepted by all sides. The U.S. considers the status of Jerusalem unresolved and subject to negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Trump family walked to the wall from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the holiest sites in Christianity, which they visited first, arriving there on foot from the Jaffa Gate.

Ivanka, who converted to Judaism on marrying her husband, was dressed demurely in black and wore her hair partially covered by a small hat.

Israel also has expressed concern about the $110 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia that Trump announced Saturday in Riyadh.

The visit is the second of three stops on the President's schedule.

Most of the major streets in the Old City of Jerusalem were shut down for the visit, preventing storeowners from opening their businesses and tourists from visiting the sites. The worldwide community does not recognise Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv.

It later annexed east Jerusalem and claims the entire city as its capital. The Palestinians seek east Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state.

Trump has also backed off of a vow made during his presidential campaign to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Though Washington and Jerusalem have publicly brushed aside reports of the incident, behind the scenes top Israeli defense officials are said to be seething and concerned by the president's actions.

- Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn will decline a Senate Intelligence Committee subpoena and likely invoke the 5th Amendment, according to an Associated Press source.

"We don't say what's classified, what's not classified", McMaster said. "And the president did not discuss any military operations that were not already publicly known", he said.

But hours later, Nikki Haley, Trump's United Nations ambassador, asserted that the wall is part of Israel.

Trump himself quelled the frenzy, extending his hands to to quiet the shouting and declaring, twice, that he didn't mention Israel in his conversation with the Russians. The compound is home to the Al Aqsa Mosque, the third-holiest site in Islam, and is where the Jewish Temple once stood.
